30,000 Pages in 2011 Challenge!

I love to read (some may even call it an obsession - just ask my husband), but I can't justify buying every book that I want to read (I sometimes like to eat too), just to feed my reading habit - who really can? That's why I love book contests and giveaways, as well as free ebooks(which, by the way, is my favorite and sometimes drool worthy source of books because it's immediate gratification...remember the obsession comment? yeah...) ...but I also really love the library! At any given time I have at least 5 or 6 books checked out, sitting on my night stand taunting me, teasing me, begging me to pick them up and dive in head first, not coming up for air until I'm finished.

All throughout the year I'm constantly checking out books, reading like a crazy woman, then returning them back to the library so I can get a brand new stack of books to take home. At the end of the year, I always find myself wondering how many books I read, as well as how many pages. I've never tracked this information before - until this year. I've decided it's time to stop wondering and finally do something about this obsession of mine. You can look anywhere online and find a book challenge - 50 books, 100 books, 150 books a year - but I haven't come across a page challenge (there probably are some but I personally haven't seen any). So here it is - 30,000 pages in 2011!

How did I come up with 30,000 pages you ask?

Well, to simply put it, the books that I read, on average, have approximately 300 pages. I am participating in the Goodreads.com 2011 challenge, where I have challenged myself to read 100 books in 2011. Time to get out the calculator folks and do a little math. 300 pages per book, times 100 books = *drum roll please* Ta-da! 30,000 pages!

Who can participate in the challenge?

Anyone and everyone can participate in this challenge. In fact, the more the merrier! You do not have to have a blog to participate.

How do I sign-up?

Signing up is easy. There are a few different ways you can do this:

1. Bloggers: If you have a blog, all you have to do is click on the sign-up link and fill out the info in the Simply Linked form. Make sure you link the URL where your books and number of pages read will be listed, NOT your homepage URL. Links with homepage URL's are subject to be removed.

2. Goodreads members: If you are a member of Goodreads, simply join Faithful Fiction's page and create a thread under the correct group in the discussion board. Click on the sign-up link and fill out the Simply Linked form. Make sure you link the URL to your thread from the Goodreads group.

3. Everyone else: Just simply leave a comment at the end of the page, including the following information: Title of Book, Author, Number of Pages, Total Number of Books Read in 2011, and Total Number of Pages Read in 2011. You can either update as you go along, or update at the end of the month.

Are there any rules?

Yes, but they're very easy.

*Every book counts...except for Audio Books. You actually have to read the pages in order for it to count towards your goal.
*You can include books from other challenges you may be participating in.
*Challenge begins on January 1, 2011 and ends on December 31, 2011.
*It would be nice if you linked back to the challenge, either by linking with the badge, or by listing a link to the challenge on your blog.
