Wish-List Wednesday!

I, as I'm sure a lot of you do as well, have a TBR list that's a mile long (okay, lets be real, it's more like a thousand miles long). I always seem to be adding to it a million times faster than I can check books off...however, I LOVE to add great books to it (I spend so much time looking at and drooling over books, I think it's starting to become a hobby). In hopes to indulge said hobby, I'm counting on you to share some books on your wish-list and I'll share some of mine with you - therefore, feeding our book obsession hunger together. Remember: Christian Fiction books only (I consider Amish books in this genre, so Amish books are encouraged acceptable)!

Tea for Two by Trish Perry

    Title: Tea for Two
    Author: Trish Perry
    Series: The Tea Shop Series
    Rating: 4 Books

Review: Tea for Two by Trish Perry is like breathing in a breath of fresh air in Heaven. It is the second book in this modern day, inspirational romance series (The Tea Shop Series) set in Northern Virginia. Milly, the owner of the tea shop, is a pleasant Christian woman who befriends all of her customers, including counselor Tina Milano and her produce supplier Zack Cooper.

Tina, a single woman and counselor, leads her weekly counseling group at Milly's shop in the mornings, where sessions frequently get off track and onto the subject of Tina's love life, or lack there-of. Zack, a single father to two teenagers, Dylan and Sherry, is in need of some advice and guidance regarding the destructive path his children seem to be taking. After talking to Milly, as encouraging and supportive as she is, he realizes he's going to need some professional help for his falling-apart-family.

After heeding Milly's advice, Zack and Tina agree to work together in a casual manner - but there's a catch – Zack doesn't want Dylan and Sherry to know they're being counseled. During a meeting with Tina at Milly's shop, Dylan and Sherry walk in after school for some treats and see Zack with Tina. Automatically assuming Zack is dating Tina, the kids are thrilled. Not wanting to disappoint his children, Zack and Tina pretend to be in a relationship. But as Tina and Zack start to spend more time with each other and their friendship progresses, are they really still pretending? Can they overcome their trust and faith issues and really become a team?

What a wonderful book! I felt like I was right there in Milly's shop, drinking tea and eating her sweets with Tina and Zack. The characters are well rounded and seem so alive and full of life's journey – wherever that may take them. The Author really made it feel as if Tina and Zack were brought together by the hand of God. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. If you need to take a break from real life to escape to a relaxing, loving, inspiring and upbeat atmosphere, this is the book for you. I would recommend this book to anyone who's looking for an excellent read.

This is the second book of Trish Perry's that I have read, and I can tell you it won't be the last. Perry has a beautiful gift from God for story telling and an eloquent writing style that captivates readers from page one.

A Time to Love by Barbara Cameron

    Title: A Time to Love
    Author: Barbara Cameron
Series: Quilts of Lancaster County #1
    Rating: 5 Books

Review: A Time To Love, the first book in Barbara Cameron's Quilts of Lancaster County series, is a beautifully written, modern day inspirational romance that revolves around a war correspondent Englisher woman who falls in love with an Amish Man.

Jenny, a confident, strong-willed woman with a compasionate heart for children, has always had a special bond with her grandmother's Amish communtity ever since her summer visits as a teenager; eventhough her father, when he was a teenager himself, left the community, never to return. While filming a story over seas about innocent children living in war-stricken areas, a car bomb explodes - severely injuring her and sending her back to the states. Lucky to be alive, Jenny wakes up in a hospital bed and notices one of her grandmother's quilts wrapped around her. Reminding her of the two summers she spent at her grandmother's house, she decides to go back there to heal.

Once there, Jenny is re-acquainted with Matthew, her first love from those summers long ago, who is now a widower with three children. Matthew, consistently finding ways to spend time with her, is a big part of the healing process for Jenny – always reassuring her how beautiful and strong she is despite her emotional and physical scars. Once again, she falls madly in love with him and his three precious children. After agreeing to marry him, she recieves some news about her health which sends her back to the hospital in New York, where she has plenty of time to re-think her decision. Can she marry him and have him risk losing another wife and his children another mother? Or can this good-looking farmer, with the help of his precious children, supportive sister and Jenny's faithful grandmother, help her realize that God has different, better plans in store for her, if she'll just give them a chance?

I fell in love with this story from page one and plan to read it many, many more times. It is such a sweet, yet captivating story full of hope, healing, true love, second chances, faith and promise. After finishing it I was yearning for more and can't wait until the second book, A Time To Heal, comes out in March 2011.

Cameron's writing style is so eloquent that I felt as though it were alive and I was living it right along with the characters. The characters are believable and very easy to relate to. This is the first book I have read by Barbara Cameron and it definitely will not be the last. If I could, I would give it 10 stars instead of 5. This is a book that is sure to be talked about for a long time and I am honored to have had the opportunity to read this amazing story.

Warning: Once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down until you finish!

    Prayer List

Faithful Fiction is not here just for books, but also to connect with and help each other. This page is dedicated to prayer requests. If you are in need of prayer, or you know someone who is, please leave a comment below so others can pray for you. Please feel free to remain anonymous and to share as little or as much as you want about your prayer request. Everyone here will be respectful and supportive. Any mean, negative, rude, etc., comments WILL be deleted. I hope this page will help you find some peace and healing.

"The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them."
    ~ Psalm 145:18-19

"And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."
    ~ Matthew 21:22

"We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him."
    ~ John 9:31

    30,000 Pages in 2011 Challenge!

I love to read (some may even call it an obsession - just ask my husband), but I can't justify buying every book that I want to read (I sometimes like to eat too), just to feed my reading habit - who really can? That's why I love book contests and giveaways, as well as free ebooks(which, by the way, is my favorite and sometimes drool worthy source of books because it's immediate gratification...remember the obsession comment? yeah...) ...but I also really love the library! At any given time I have at least 5 or 6 books checked out, sitting on my night stand taunting me, teasing me, begging me to pick them up and dive in head first, not coming up for air until I'm finished.

All throughout the year I'm constantly checking out books, reading like a crazy woman, then returning them back to the library so I can get a brand new stack of books to take home. At the end of the year, I always find myself wondering how many books I read, as well as how many pages. I've never tracked this information before - until this year. I've decided it's time to stop wondering and finally do something about this obsession of mine. You can look anywhere online and find a book challenge - 50 books, 100 books, 150 books a year - but I haven't come across a page challenge (there probably are some but I personally haven't seen any). So here it is - 30,000 pages in 2011!

How did I come up with 30,000 pages you ask?

Well, to simply put it, the books that I read, on average, have approximately 300 pages. I am participating in the Goodreads.com 2011 challenge, where I have challenged myself to read 100 books in 2011. Time to get out the calculator folks and do a little math. 300 pages per book, times 100 books = *drum roll please* Ta-da! 30,000 pages!

Who can participate in the challenge?

Anyone and everyone can participate in this challenge. In fact, the more the merrier! You do not have to have a blog to participate.

    How do I sign-up?

Signing up is easy. There are a few different ways you can do this:

    1. Bloggers: If you have a blog, all you have to do is click on the sign-up link and fill out the info in the Simply Linked form. Make sure you link the URL where your books and number of pages read will be listed, NOT your homepage URL. Links with homepage URL's are subject to be removed.

    2. Goodreads members: If you are a member of Goodreads, simply join Faithful Fiction's page and create a thread under the correct group in the discussion board. Click on the sign-up link and fill out the Simply Linked form. Make sure you link the URL to your thread from the Goodreads group.

    3. Everyone else: Just simply leave a comment at the end of the page, including the following information: Title of Book, Author, Number of Pages, Total Number of Books Read in 2011, and Total Number of Pages Read in 2011. You can either update as you go along, or update at the end of the month.

    Are there any rules?

    Yes, but they're very easy.

*Every book counts...except for Audio Books. You actually have to read the pages in order for it to count towards your goal.
*You can include books from other challenges you may be participating in.
*Challenge begins on January 1, 2011 and ends on December 31, 2011.
*It would be nice if you linked back to the challenge, either by linking with the badge, or by listing a link to the challenge on your blog.

    Challenge Badge:

    Contests

I love to win books, as I'm sure you do to. That's why I've created this contests page. Here you will find websites that hold contests for books. Also, be sure to check out your favorite author's webpages, blogs, facebook pages and follow them on twitter. You'd be surprised at how many hold contests on these social networks - and not just for books. Some of my favorite authors have given away e-readers, gift cards, gift baskets, etc., so it's really in your best interest to check them out.
